Can Beauty Sleep Actually Improve Your Looks?

Getting your beauty sleep may be more important than you think. Thanks to Estee Lauder, a new study has suggested that individuals who do not get quality sleep may show more signs of aging in younger years.

Beauty-Sleep-1So how do you know if you’re getting all you can out of your beauty sleep? Well, there are several instances that can prevent you from getting a good nights sleep: not sleeping enough, not sleeping deeply and repeatedly waking up in the middle of the night. All of these factors disturb your sleep cycle, which is when your body is able to perform optimal cell repair!

Medical Daily reported, “while chronic sleep deprivation has been linked to medical problems such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, and immune deficiency, its effects on skin function have previously been unknown…Women reporting inadequate sleep patterns showed an increased presence of ‘intrinsic’ aging signs, such as fine lines, reduced elasticity, and uneven pigmentation. Additionally, the poor quality sleepers displayed longer recovery times from ‘extrinsic’ signs, such as sunburn and other external factors.”

If you suffer from the evidence of sleep deprivation on your face, such as fine lines, wrinkles, under eye circles and more, MCH Laser & Wellness can help you refresh and rejuvenate.  Botox, Juvederm, Restylane and chemical peels can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while photofacials can eliminate age spots and other pigmentation concerns.  So, although beauty sleep really can help improve your looks, so can MCH Laser & Wellness!

Can Exercise Prevent, Delay & Even Reverse Signs of Aging? New Research Published in The NY Times Suggests Yes

Screen Shot 2014-05-05 at 1.54.37 PMMore good news for fitness fanatics! While the health benefits of exercise are well known, new research suggests there may be skin and anti-aging benefits from working out, as well.

A recent article in The New York Times, titled “Younger Skin Through Exercise” documented a McMaster University study and it’s findings.

“They found that after age 40, the men and women who exercised frequently had…skin (that) was much closer in composition to that of the 20- and 30-year-olds than to that of others of their age, even if they were past age 65,” The Times reported in April.

The study also found that those who began an exercise routine after age 65 could reverse signs of aging on the skin to a certain extent. A subset of “volunteers were aged at 65 or older and, at the study’s start, had normal skin for their age. They began a fairly straightforward endurance training program… This continued for three months. At the end of that time, the researchers again biopsied the volunteers’ skin. But now the samples looked quite different, with outer and inner layers that looked very similar to those of 20- to 40-year-olds.”
